It is one thing to collect data, it is another entirely to ensure that data speaks to the heart of policy.
Seeing our air quality work from the streets of Kampala to a classroom in the United States is a reminder that while air pollution is a local struggle, the fight for environmental justice is global.
There is often a massive gap between the research done plus data collected daily and the actual understanding of the people living through the pollution.
We can have loads of data on beautiful dashboards, but without advocacy, that information remains locked away in academic journals.
We often advocate for new policies, but our most urgent work is making sure existing health and environmental policies are actually enforced. We owe this to our children and the generations to follow. As one of our presentation slides captures so perfectly: "Because in Buganda, clean air is life".
Public Square is about more than just data collection, it’s about data ownership and contributing to a global cause, When a citizen scientist borrows a monitor, they aren't just measuring the air, they are writing their own "Air Quality Story" and helping us build a healthier future for everyone.
