About Public Square
In a region with one of the youngest populations globally, East Africa faces a paradox – persistent political apathy and low citizen engagement. The Public Square exists to change that. We are an East African-based think tank and civil society organization dedicated to organizing people, fostering debate, and mobilizing intellectual capital to improve our shared social-political condition.
Through political education, community engagement, and the fight against disinformation, we aim to inspire active citizenship and create pathways for meaningful participation in the region’s critical conversations.

Public Accountability
We organize, rally and leverage public opinion around governance issues at the national level with a key interest in amplifying voices that are both nuanced and marginalized.
Climate Justice &
Energy Transition
Cognizant of the fact that Uganda is a signatory of most international climate treaties and accords, there is an evident gap in their local implementation; Public Square employs research-based advocacy to highlight these gaps for civic benefit.
Civic Education
Aspiring to bridge the gap in the quality of civic engagement, we equip young people with the knowledge and skills to meaningfully engage local and national issues, inspiring them to use their voices and talents to create positive change.
