Static monitors tell a story but often miss the hotspots.

This programme was launched at the start of December 2025 to help address the mobility air quality data gap.

According to the latest research per Better health, static monitor miss the hotspots by 44% experienced during daily movement such as commute routes and markets.

The programme uses portable Air quality monitors (AirBeam3), individuals borrow them and collect data during their daily activities.

How the programme works

A Google form available on our website and all social media platforms is filled by an individual, therein he or she answers a few questions plus a date of monitor pick up.

Individuals come to our offices to pick the monitors on the date specified and are trained on how it works, in the form these individuals specify where they are going to use the monitors, this may be a walk, a child's route to school, work-home commute, a market etc

Individuals use the monitor for a maximum number of days specified in the form filled and return the monitor for the next individual.

Youth led participation

This programme is mainly run by university students, currently at Kyambogo university,Makerere University and Makerere Business school. Their participation had helped build a strong network of young citizens involved in air quality monitoring .

Data access and use

The data collected is uploaded to a public dashboard on our website, participants can use this data collected to understand exposure patterns, incorporate it in school research and policy discussions on air quality.

This programme is long term and provides valuable insight that can support future urban planning, public health decisions and targeted pollution interventions.
