Public displays of data compliment digital dashboards ensuring individuals with no smartphones or who can't actively search for it online can access it.
This is an ongoing initiative in collaboration with Melina Platas, Associate Professor at New York University Abu Dhabi. The project is to provide real time PM 2.5 data to the public through a continuously displayed screen on the CITIES Air dashboard.
In kampala, individuals have limited access to real time PM 2.5 data, this project fills this gap by making data visible and Access to the public.
Public Air quality Display installation
To make the data accessible beyond digital platforms, we installed a public screen display at a strategic location within the Buganda kingdom headquarters. It was installed at reception area, a location that receives a high number of visitors inclusive of government officials, cultural leaders, community members and the general public.
The screen continuously broadcasts the CITIES Air dashboard, displaying live PM 2.5 readings from various monitors around the city. The display runs 24/7 this visitors to the Kingdom offices can see current ait pollution levels at any time.
Project Impact.
This project is an important step to democratizing access to air quality information and making it a visible public resource.
It also demonstrates how public displays of data compliment digital dashboards ensuring individuals with no smartphones or who can't actively search for it online can access it.
We continue to explore ways to make data accessible, understandable and actionable through this initiative.
